Get Out of Iraq Now
The Green Party stands firmly against the Iraq war, the militaristic response to the 9-11-01 attacks, and the very real prospect of a military draft next year.

A War Built on Lies

It has been revealed that, prior to 9-11, senior members of the Bush Administration, including Vice President Cheney, were considering an invasion of Iraq. The day after the 9-11 attacks, Bush himself told Richard Clarke, his counter-terrorism advisor, that he wanted Clarke to find evidence showing that Iraq was responsible.

The Iraq war was built upon lie after lie. The Iraq government did not have weapons of mass destruction. They had nothing to do with 9-11. They were not working with Al Qaeda. They were not a military threat to their neighbors, Israel or the United States.

Stop the War Now!

It is time to bring the U.S. troops home now. Their presence is opposed by a majority of Iraqis and is fueling political instability and widespread and continuing resistance. U.S. troops don't belong in Iraq any more than Dick Cheney's Halliburton does. Every day, more U.S. soldiers and more innocent Iraqi civilians are dying.

The United States must announce that it is withdrawing, set a firm date for that withdrawal to be completed, and then leave. We must pledge that we will not have permanent military bases in Iraq. We support elections no later than January, supervised by the United Nations if that is the wish of the Iraqi people, to choose a truly representative government. That government must have full national sovereignty over the economic, political, social and cultural life of Iraq. All laws, regulations and contracts enacted during the U.S. occupation must be declared null and void. The United States must give significant aid for Iraq's reconstruction with funds taken from the Pentagon budget.

There is no chance for an end to the terrorism of the stateless, or the justified resistance of the downtrodden, until the U.S. changes its foreign policy to one of support for economic and social justice for all people, not support for repressive, corporate-friendly regimes.

Just Say No to The Draft

The Green Party opposes the very real prospect of a military draft under the guise of adding more troops for the so-called "war on terror." Forced military service is a form of indentured servitude. It is especially outrageous to draft young men and women to fight a war in Iraq that never should have happened.

We urge protest and resistance to this war until U.S. troops are brought home and Iraq has regained its sovereignty.
