Ten Key Values
There is no authoritative version of the Ten Key Values of the Greens. The Ten Key Values are guiding principles that are adapted and defined to fit each state and local chapter. The version you see here was ratified at a national Green Party convention in Colorado in 2000. Read them over and see how many you agree with. more
Democracy
Democracy is the key to a prosperous and secure life for all. Without democracy, the people are without power. Without democracy, the people always get the short end of the stick. Their rights are in constant jeopardy and trampled upon. Justice just doesn't come their way. Their dignity is constantly affronted. Their net income, never very large to begin with, is nibbled away until finally most of the people, whether middle class or poor, suffer deprivation and despair. There is a direct relationship between democracy and prosperity for all. As democracy rises, so too does the livelihood of the people. As democracy declines, most people’s net income gets less and less. more
Get Out of Iraq Now
The Green Party stands firmly against the Iraq war, the militaristic response to the 9-11-01 attacks, and the very real prospect of a military draft next year. more
Repeal the Patriot Act
When the USA PATRIOT Act was passed in October 2001, the Green Party and many other groups denounced the new law. We predicted that its implementation would have an enormously negative impact upon American civil liberties and democracy in general. Sadly, time has shown that these concerns were more than justified. more
Education
Federal policy on education should act principally to ensure equal access to a quality education. Funding formulas at the state level need to be adjusted as needed to avoid gross inequalities between districts and schools. Educational grants should provide balance to ensure equal educational access for minority, deprived, special needs, and exceptional children. more
Energy
David Cobb and Pat LaMarche understand that there is absolutely no reason that our nation's energy supply should be at the mercy of shifting geopolitical sands in the Middle East. Safe, clean, renewable energy systems exist now and are being deployed throughout the world. The challenge before us is to force the existing status quo interests coal/petroleum/nuclear corporate power to stop throwing up roadblocks and allow a strategic, structured transition out of the Petroleum Era into the Clean Renewable Energy Era. The United States must move rapidly toward energy independence, address global climate change and create excellent quality jobs all at the same time through an accelerated program that obtains energy from cleaner renewable sources such as wind, solar, geothermal and biomass. more
Federal Living Wage
Every person working full time in the United States ought to make enough money to support their family. It is outrageous that full time workers in the United States qualify for food stamps and other forms of public assistance because they do not earn enough money to pay the rent and put food on the table. America needs a Living Wage. more
Reparations for African Americans
The trans-Atlantic theft and enslavement of human beings, begun by Christopher Columbus over 510 years ago and continued until the mid-1800's, resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of Africans while crossing the ocean. Those who survived, and their descendants, were subjected to a system of chattel slavery and treated as property until 1865. For 100 years after that, African American people in the South had to contend with brutal Jim Crow segregation, while African Americans in all parts of the country had to contend with deep-seated, institutional racism. more
Equal Rights for Gays and Lesbians
The Cobb-LaMarche campaign stands with all Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer (LGBTIQ) people in their struggle, and will work to enact laws to end the discrimination they face. These are difficult times for all who do not fit traditional molds. Standing with those who are oppressed is an obligation that sets the stage for the equality and liberation of all. We support the true liberation of the human spirit and deplore discrimination. more
